Aww! My Big Canoe Neighbors!!

Fawns in Big Canoe

Fawns in Big Canoe

Hello Friends,

I wasn’t in the mood to blog until I got an email from my beloved husband who is only 20 feet away from me. You see while I was drinking cold coffee in rainy, tornado laden weather  on my way to Dunwoody to pick up my new SUPRA key, Dan was home with fresh brewed coffee, in his comfy clothes making websites. He caught a glimpse of movement in the front yard and looked up at 2  adorable twin fawns. They were just frolicking about and staying close to “Mom”. He quickly grabbed his camera and snapped some great pics of the young’uns. Yes, we see deer, fawns, and lots of turkey families but it’s rare that we have the camera ready to prove it to the rest of the world.

This story may sound humdrum if you are not that into cute little speckled fawns, but it made me think about other parts of the world where the wildlife isn’t as friendly. One of my very favorite clients has been trying to get up to Big Canoe for a while now. Her commercial bakery business has kept her nose to the grindstone. So when she wants to catch her breath and go for a peaceful walk in her neighborhood in Boca Raton she does not see these fuzzy, little, button-nosed, babies. She is greeted by a long scary hissssssss from a scaly, spiky-eyed, jagged toothed, dragon-looking thing that roams around freely! (Hope my scientific terms haven’t made me look pretentious!) Secretly I think he’s kind of cute in his own scaly way. After all he DOES have a mother! However if I had a choice, I’d take the frolicking fawns any day! How about you?

Very funny Karin! I would have been really impressed if your blog had included a picture of Mothra (the giant moth) or Gamera ( the giant turtle). They were the wildlife that was always rampaging through Tokyo in the Godzilla movies ! :)

Hi Karin & Dan ! We named this delightful little fellow, Ignacius the Iguana. I do admire his formiddable presence however, I would prefer to do so while watching the Nature Channel, than with my mouth agape, a few feet away :( ha ha

When the day comes that we make Big Canoe our full time home, I will gladly bid dear ol’ Ignacius sweet adieu and happily say “Hello Bambi!” to those lovely and gentle fawns of Big Canoe.

    Hi Valerieanne,
We can’t wait to see you guys! Please tell Iggie that we do have a few of his cousins here, the 3 inch long Blue Tailed Skinks, but most of the ones in our yard are “no-tailed” skinks thanks to the cat!

Great pics! I’ve been able to get a few shots of the deer running around here too. These are the first fawns I’ve seen though.

The deer were all out on Monday. I was driving my parents around the community while they were visiting and had several deer sightings. We had to stop once while some crossed the road… as if the whole world rotated around them. Actually, I think it did at that moment!

Quite a change from the traffic stoppers in Atlanta!

    Hi Tom!

Traffic stoppers in Atlanta - isn’t that the truth? I hope your family enjoyed their visit. The deer don’t seem to be to scared of us do they? Have you gotten to see any wild turkeys with an attitude yet? The males get sort of cocky every so often, and they’ll puff up and threaten their own reflection. Hope to catch up with you more soon.
