Sneak A Peek at the New Big Canoe Clubhouse

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Right around 2 years ago, there was an ugly storm that thrashed around the mountains of Big Canoe just after lunch and whipped a bolt of lightning smack dab into the middle of the Sconti Clubhouse. Some of you already know about the old Sconti Clubhouse, and the day it burned to the ground. For those [...]

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

There are more than sixty clubs, activity groups, and volunteer organizations in Big Canoe.  Book and writers  groups are among the many and varied clubs and groups that help make living in Big Canoe such a pleasure.  My father belongs to the Big Canoe “No Name Book Club”.  It’s called the “No Name Book Club” [...]

Mysterious Stone Cairns in Big Canoe - Indian Rocks Park

Friday, February 29th, 2008

I have wanted to write a short article on Indian Rocks Park for some time now.  Indian Rocks Park is located in the North Georgia mountain community of Big Canoe.  If you just want to take a short hike through the woods or want to enjoy a meal at one of the picnic tables, Indian [...]

Those of you who have been keeping up with our blog know that we are big dog lovers. Our newest addition, Pepper who inadvertantly came from Big Canoe has become my new fitness trainer. Friday, January 18th, 2008

Break out the beans for the chili, load up the firewood and stock up on the vino because here it comes again, round two of Snow Jam 2008! I think this one might stick because I got distracted in the grocery store bringing home not much more than bread, milk, and frozen veggies. YUCK! We’ll [...]

Our family loves winter weather here in the North Georgia mountain community of Big Canoe.  All day long we have been monitoring the weather service, and as of 4:52 PM, the weather service has issued a “Winter Storm Warning” for Jasper, Ga (which includes Big Canoe).  The prediction is for snow accumulations up to 3 [...]

Pepper, A New Friend in Big Canoe

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

There is no doubt that Big Canoe is a very pet friendly community. There is an active volunteer driven animal rescue headed up by Joyce Chura, a fun, big, and happy  dog corral complete with tennis ball throwers and a water pump for the thirsty canines. The Jeep trail is a whole lot more satisfying when [...]

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Living in the North Georgia mountains, specifically in Big Canoe, I get to enjoy the natural beauty of the Appalachian mountains, the incredible change of color in the autumn leaves, abundant wildlife, slower pace of life……and BBQ, specifically pork butt.  Pork butt is the meat of choice for BBQ lovers in this neck of the [...]

Bent Trees, A Link to the Past in Big Canoe

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Prior to moving to the North Georgia mountain community of Big Canoe, I had never heard of Bent Trees.  People also refer to them as Boundary Trees, Trail Trees, and other names, but they all refer to trees marked or bent by Native Americans. The area around Big Canoe was mostly [...]
