Where’s the Best Bargain in Big Canoe?
By Karin Elliott | August 19, 2008
Hello Everyone,
Pardon my absence as I’ve been busier than a one legged cat…well you know the rest. The diet is still in effect but the exercise has been tough with the fall rush. I’ll update you all when my progress is more astounding! hee hee Anyway I have a decent topic for tonight and it is about the one thing that everyone wants: the best deal in Big Canoe. Read on for some insight of where I feel the best bargains are located.
It is important to start with the concept of “Bargain” from the big picture. As a former 4th grade teacher I can proudly say that Social Studies/Geography was my least favorite subject to learn and my very favorite to teach. In order to find a Utopian mountain community with a dramatic price range from the 180’s to 2.6M, start with a search for North American Mountain Communities, Narrow it to the East Coast (unless you want ALASKA), Include gates and amenities such as golf, swim, tennis, fishing, security, trails and restaurant, Eliminate damaging snow (include ornamental snow), Add 1 hour distance to major city and top notch hospitals, and tell me what you find. BIG CANOE
Many of my customers are looking for a neighborhood where they can visit on the weekends and eventually retire to when the time is right. Many others are ready to take the plunge and move here full time while they either commute or work from home. They want to be in the mountains and many enjoy playing golf. North Carolina is almost competition. They have a higher elevation and get a little more snow. It is beautiful up there but there are a few issues with the North Carolina mountains. There are no major cities nearby. Cultural events, good hospitals, and shopping are several hours away. Most importantly the prices in North Carolina are significantly higher than the North Georgia Mountains.
Big Canoe is truly a bargain just by getting in the gates! It is well maintained and well established. There are still good deals on homes but the best deal is the community itself. With all the different neighborhoods we have here there is surely one that fits your needs and there are great deals to be found in each section. I personally love where I live in the Disharoon Valley because I’m close enough to get to where I need to go and far enough away to sit back and blog peacefully while the cicadas sing in the background. I can walk my dogs in my PJ’s and I have neighbors that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Now that, my friends is a Bargain!!!

Ditto! Ditto! As a fellow resident for nearly seven years in our “Mountain Paradise”, I totally agree that Big Canoe is a true bargain as well as a friendly, pristine and peaceful place to live. It has sooo much to offer while being convenient to Atlanta and other North Georiag cities. Its a wonderful place to raise a family and enjoy spending fun-filled time with family and friends!
