The Equestrian Section in the Big Canoe Community - Not Many Horses, But Still a Great Value!

Big Canoe's Equestrian Section 

Today I had a listing meeting in the Equestrian area of Big Canoe. It was a beautiful day and the creeks were clear and running full.  I met with the owners and was quickly astounded by the Atlanta skyline view so close to the main gate! They showed me the almost 3 acre lot, and added the fact that it backed up to a large greenbelt. This 100% custom home is open and airy with bountiful natural sunlight. I liked the fact that it is located at the end of a cul-de-sac, and the surrounding lots were just as amply sized. I also enjoyed the home because it had a very nice flow to it and the upper level had almost a treehouse feel to it with big views from the sitting loft and an open hallway to the guestrooms. After meeting with the owners I could tell that they will miss their neighbors as they spoke about all the friends that have made in the Equestrian neighborhood. The funny part about it is that I have heard this from several residents of this community. I have yet to meet any grumpy “equestrians”!!

Perhaps I’m writing about this neighborhood because I have a personal attachment to it. I used to own a wonderful lot there on 9001 Hunters Trace. It was shaped a lot like a heart with a babbling, mossy bouldered creek running through the center of it. We were just too busy to build on it and had to sell, but I will miss the neighbors as much as the lot. The new owners also fell in love with it but sadly will not be able to build. It is back on the block and waiting for a free thinker with a love for a park-like back yard. The Equestrian neighborhood was originally planned for horses. However after some time it was voted out, and now there are hints in the street names reflecting the plan. All the homes have bigger private lots with set back homes and long driveways. This neighborhood was developed in the 80’s but there are plenty of newer homes for the people that want to be close to the gate.

The Equestrian homes run a full price-range from weekenders in the 200’s all the way to expansive view homes in the high 600s. If you are looking for a commuter home with a view, keep your fingers crossed that you can find one in the Equestrian Neighborhood because you really get a lot for your money, and many of the neighbors are long time residents. My favorite part about the Equestrian neighborhood is that you get to tell your friends; once the get through the main gate to make “the first left past the covered bridge”! I never got to say anything like that when I lived in Duluth!
