Locations in Big Canoe…Where is the Best Place to Live?

By Karin Elliott | January 20, 2008

Where is the best place to live in Big Canoe? To answer this question simply I’ll use the dam as a halfway point. You either live before the dam or past the dam. There are advantages to both sections.

If you live before the dam, you might be a daily commuter and prefer a more full time atmosphere. Many people that live in the Wildcat, Cherokee, Blackwell Creek, Waterford, and Equestrian neighborhoods prefer to travel frequently, maybe they have children that they need to get to school on weekdays. There are plenty of full time sized homes complete with garages and decent driveways. Wildcat and Waterford are more expensive in the 600 plus range, Blackwell Creek is 500-600K range, Cherokee and Equestrian are both a little more established and range from 350-600K. Our listings up before the dam are:

9319 Blackwell Creek Way at $539K-Nice sized home, well appointed, on a quiet cul-de-sac

2225 Cherokee Trail at $449K-Five bedrooms, 2 fireplaces, view and close to the Wildcat rec center.

2307 Yanoo Trace at $399K-Smart Remodel and room for entertaining!

2021 McElroy Mountain at $499K has gourmet kitchen and park like yard!

The advantages of living past the dam are just as pleasant. Many weekenders prefer to be past the gate and the full timers find ways to work from home. The sections are more established and the homes are all unique. We live back by the Jeep Trail and enjoy heading to the falls for a “time-out” every once in a while. It’s so very quiet here with frequent wildlife and my street only has a handfull of full timers. Although it is a longer journey to the gate I am just about guaranteed a “wow” sunrise as I drive my son to the bus in the morning and Lake Petit has a different face every trip. I used to call it my spa time and remind myself every day as I listen to the traffic report in Duluth.

6152 Trout Lily Trail is an adorable weekender cabin at $249K fully furnished!

6146 Trout Lily Trail is equipped for full time living with a big family. 4 bedrooms 4.5 baths and plenty of living space!

6090 Indian Pipe if perfect for full or part time and a true gem of a home! $399K can’t be beat!!!

5216 Columbine is a romantic home with plenty of views from every room, 3 fireplaces and hot terrace level $559K

Before the dam or after??? Come choose for youself. I hate to say it but I can’t help myself, “You’re dam’d if you do and dam’d if you don’t”.
