I make this disclaimer because I do not want there to be any confusion about who or what IBA Realty group is, and how we fit into the Big Canoe real estate market. It’s probably easiest to start by explaining a little about what and where Big Canoe is. Big Canoe is a North Georgia mountain community that was started in the 1970’s as a retirement and resort development. Big Canoe covers approximately 8000 acres, all of which is a protected wildlife sanctuary, and homes built in Big Canoe must fit in with the natural surroundings.
While the current development of Big Canoe is managed by the Byrne Corporation and Greenwood Development, the community is run and operated by the Big Canoe Property Owners (POA). There are still many Georgia mountain cabins, weekend getaways, and second homes located in Big Canoe, but with its proximity to both Georgia 400, I-75, and only an hour from the Atlanta airport, many families are permanent residents of Big Canoe. In fact, Big Canoe has transformed into something of a small town with its own security, private roads, post office, fire department, and water supply.

Our intent is to provide readers with insight into not only the North Georgia and Big Canoe real estate market, but also into the community of Big Canoe. The incredible variety of activites, groups, and people living in Big Canoe makes a wonderfully diverse and dynamic community. There is always something to do!
