Sneak A Peek at the New Big Canoe Clubhouse

By Karin Elliott | March 9, 2008

Right around 2 years ago, there was an ugly storm that thrashed around the mountains of Big Canoe just after lunch and whipped a bolt of lightning smack dab into the middle of the Sconti Clubhouse. Some of you already know about the old Sconti Clubhouse, and the day it burned to the ground. For those who haven’t heard, read on for a very interesting story.

It was the day I planned to get my haircut, which is a miracle all on its own. The sky was black and ominus but I was determined to get coiffed regardless of the weather. I brought the kids down to play in the terrace level and told them to stay away from the windows. My husband was in charge after that, and as I grabbed my keys I heard THE thunderbolt that changed Big Canoe! The sky looked so bad that I decided my hair could wait until the storm passed. When I left I heard a million police cars and fire truck sirens. Then low and behold I saw what looked like a blazing inferno where our clubhouse used to be! After I inched through the traffic, I was able to get my hair done knowing that I would soon have all the info on the fire. I didn’t think it would still be ablaze after I got back but this fire had a large group watching from the golf course on picnic blankets, drinking wine and sharing stories of the old clubhouse. I was even teary, but my hair looked great!!!

Big Canoe already had some plans to rebuild our clubhouse prior to the big blaze. Optimists look at the fire as a big head start. The new clubhouse is almost finished and due to open this summer. Residents are invited to take a tour tomorrow from 2-4, meet our new food and beverage manager, and enjoy refreshments afterward. Please note that hard hats are required and no heels or open toed shoes.

It’s time to share old memories and start new ones!
