Pepper, A New Friend in Big Canoe
By Karin Elliott | January 12, 2008
There is no doubt that Big Canoe is a very pet friendly community. There is an active volunteer driven animal rescue headed up by Joyce Chura, a fun, big, and happy dog corral complete with tennis ball throwers and a water pump for the thirsty canines. The Jeep trail is a whole lot more satisfying when you have an enthusiastic 4 legged companion to share it with.
Last week I lost one of my best friends, Lady the “German-dober-beagle”, who gave us all 14 years of pure “pup” paradise!!! I’ll miss that dog for the rest of my life. I had to buck up
pretty quickly because I had some clients the day after we lost her. I was fine, no waterworks or anything. I was happy that they brought their adorable sheltie with them for some ”pup” therapy. They loved all of the Big Canoe real estate and will hopefully be calling me soon. There is a reason behind all my blathering! While I was with them I decided to get them a map from the North Gate while I planned to meet them at the Wildcat Pool. I walked in to the Gate House and overheard a guard ask someone if they wanted a free beagle. My ears perked instantly! I knew I was being rude for eavesdropping but my gut shouted out, “I just lost me beagle yesterday” looking up not to get teary. The guard was my phone friend and fellow agent, Nancy Mumm. She turned around and was almost relieved that it was me asking about her pup. She told me her daughter was going away for college and she worked too much to take care of her 7 month old pup. I was intrigued and asked if I could meet her once I got
the “OK” from Dan my hubby. Dan was more enthusiastic about it than me and we took the kids. The moment we got there, we saw one happy and charismatic pup, who if I didn’t know better, was playing it up as thick as she could! Clark, her “dad” was sad to see her go and we promised that it would be an “open adoption”. NOBODY on earth would pass this pup up if they didn’t have to.
Her name is Pepper and she is Big Canoe’s newest resident. We are proud to have her and look forward to years of long walks and squirrel protection!
