Dekalb Symphony Comes to Big Canoe - Worth the Wait
By Karin Elliott | June 9, 2008

After one rain out and a long week of waiting, the Dekalb Symphony performed tonight right behind the new clubhouse on the golf course. The turnout was amazing, and though it was hot and sunny, the crowd was in good spirits. The symphony players were amazing as my mind drifted away in the surreal mountain and lakeside setting. There were quite a few children playing by the lake, watching curious fish, and dancing on the green to the enchanting music with the mountain backdrop as a barrier. They were quiet and appreciative as the symphony played and everyone seemed to enjoy the music coming to life!

Friends, neighbors, and families gathered for a catered dinner and others tailgated on the green with beer, wine, and rum punch! Those who got too hot were refreshed at the cooling station where they were gently misted with cool water. There was no perfect angle but those who live in the Lake Watch Village were the luckiest because even if they couldn’t see it from their deck, they were only steps away from the magical mountain melodies. There were golf cart shuttles ready to escort people to their cars, although we enjoyed the walk.

All in all it was truly a gift to have been there tonight. I thank my lucky stars that I live here every day and look forward to next year’s performance.

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at the concert, and it was an evening to remember. The twirling and dancing children were adorable!
