New Families Welcomed to Big Canoe Through Moms Morning Out

Living in Big Canoe isn’t entirely about the mountains and all the fantastic amenities available. Big Canoe could truly be summarized by the old saying that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. For me, the community of Big Canoe in conjunction with the natural beauty of our surroundings, as well as the fantastic amenities is really what makes this such a wonderful place. Many of my ”30 something” clients love the concept of Big Canoe but are leery of raising their kids in the mountains without any nearby friends. To them, this is what I say:
As a mother of 2 young children I can admit I was nervous about moving to Big Canoe because I thought my children would never get to see the “supposed” other kids that live here. I was sooo wrong!! Almost 3 years ago I signed my daughter up for Big Canoe Chapel’s Moms Morning Out (MMO) program. I met with Holly Moranos who heads up the program along with the other teachers Stacy Guidice, Toni Hicks, and Jan Young, who all happen to be residents of Big Canoe.
This is not simply daycare. In my opinion these teachers are providing daily lessons with social activites, reading and stories, and arts and crafts. All of this is incorporated into a Christian setting without being over the top. The children are continuously coming home with masterpieces as enlightening as their smiles. It was very refreshing to see all the kiddies running around with their new friends. As a mom, I enjoy the 3 day “break”, but I have made a lot of friends there too. Most important of all, my child loves it.
When we first started there were about 8 kids, there are now approximately 16 children broken up into 3 classes that follow the school calendar. The classes run 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) from 9:30 to 1:30. The cost is $120 per month and worth every penny!
Other childrens activities occur in Big Canoe throughout the year; Big Canoe Chapel’s Vacation Bible School, Scouts, soccer, golf and tennis clinics, Big Canoe Day Camp in summer, youth groups, Trunk or Treat, baseball, Santa, Egg Hunt, 4th of July parade and events, and a VERY fun Power Hour at the playground Mondays Through Thursdays during Bus Pick-Up where the moms get to chat and the kids play on acres of beautiful mountain land.
