See You Later Summer! Big Canoe Prepares for Fall

First Sign of Fall
This week the sour woods decided to turn red and orange and I started to realize that fall is not too far away. All good things must come to an end. But when one door closes, another opens. This was a summer to remember in Big Canoe with comfortable temperatures and low humidity (until August arrived). The Kijankos, who run the Big Canoe Swim Club did a super job of rounding up those lifeguards and keeping the pools in tip top shape all summer long. I’m sure they are ready for some R & R until next year. This year’s 4th of July celebration was the best one yet, and the symphony was spectacular. Trips to our plot in the Jasper community Garden and the Saturday Jasper Farmer’s Market kept our family full of locally grown produce all summer long. However with the kids back in school and the pool closed it’s time to focus on the good things to come this Fall.
- Here are some suggestions to help you transition to the North Georgia mountain’s most brilliant time of year:
- We are only a month away from the beginning of the apple season and I can not wait to make trips out to the farms over on Hwy 52 in Ellijay.
- Boutique fall shopping and lunch with a friend are only a short drive away at the square in Dahlonega, the Outlets in Dawsonville, or even a drive into Atlanta for the day. With so many sales going on it may be a perfect time to snap up a few sweaters, even if they rest in a drawer for a few more weeks.
- Big Canoe’s Oktoberest is still a few months off, but if you want to be a vendor it is time to sign up. (Please email me for an application)
- Trunk or Treat plans are already being made. Spend a rainy day planning out your scarycar theme. If you are interested in volunteering, please let me know.
- The holidays are vastly approaching, and nobody likes to celebrate more than me. I just joined the fitness center and plan to eat a whole turkey with stuffing and gravy guilt free come this Turkey Day. One hour every morning after dropping off the kids means I can say “Yes, please add extra whipped cream to my pumpkin pie!” without a worry.
- The hiking trails beckon walkers this time of year. With cooler weather you can walk farther and drink in the subtle change of the tree canopy from green to red, orange, yellow and purple.
- Prepare your screen porches for full time living with friends or simply curled up with a good book. I always write so much better when I’m out on my porch in Fall.
- One last important detail for Fall preparation: Don’t forget to pack up your white pants and shoes after Labor Day.
From a real estate angle Fall is a perfect time to buy a Big Canoe home. Most sellers are anxious to hand over the keys to buyers before the end of the year. Many buyers want to spend the holidays in the mountains. With an average of 30 days to close on a home, now is the time to start getting serious. The cabins and view homes are currently my number one buyer request. Take a look on my site as there are new homes popping up every day.
Cheers to Fall!

Thanks for the great photos. Some tree has dropped leaves all over our front deck. Where did summer go?

Hi Deborah,
I bet that was a sour wood on your deck too. This was a great summer but I am ready for fall and some cooler weather. The pictures must have been from my last post on 8136 Wild Cherry. Those were courtesy of the owner who is a great photographer!
