Big Canoe’s Summer Events 2009

Symphony on the Green
This has been a fun filled and action packed summer so far. From meeting a bear in my driveway to scheduling clients and closings there has been no shortage of excitement. Below is a recap of the last few weeks of what I’m calling a Jumping June!

It has been a few weeks since the 2009 Symphony on the Green event in Big Canoe and I am still smiling! This year the Reinhardt College Symphony performed and they did a great job. The weather was perfect for a summer evening of outdoor entertainment in the backdrop of Big Canoe’s Lake Sconti and its pastoral mountain setting. Though I spent most of the evening zipping around taking photos I enjoyed visiting with friends and watching my kids play with the other children. The girls danced the night away while the boys played tag and looked for fish. Picnic blankets were spread casually about the golfcourse and the music mellowed the mood in a night full of ambiance. Keeping on a musical note, Banks and Shane came to play their summer concert at the Terraces last Saturday night. This is always a popular show and the weather was perfect. For those who don’t know, The Terraces is an outdoor ampi-theater in Big Canoe where you can enjoy the bands al-fresco.

Seven Ladies Dancing
Daily trips to the Big Canoe Swim Club have been a lifesaver for me, no pun intended. The kids are now doing the rockslide at the main pool which is a very good workout. I like it too because I don’t realize that I’m getting exercise until the next day. The canoes have become popular too now that I have my son paddling in the front. We explored all of Lake Disharoon and found plenty of fish, turtles, and birds. The lifeguards are top notch and the grill/snack bar is now open and running. You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages but food must be eaten in the designated areas and no glass please.
The next Big Canoe event is only a week away, the Fourth of July Celebration. The Playground Park at the dam starts to fill up with friends around 5 o’clock. Tailgaters will bring everything from Apple Pie to Zucchini Salad and wash it all down with cold beer, punch, and juice boxes. This kids will have a ton of fun running around with glow-sticks and sparklers. Get there early and stay late.
After a busy month of real estate I plan to spend the remainder of July picking blackberries, blueberries, and possibly peaches in between welcoming my new neighbors to Big Canoe. For now I am wishing them happy closings and stress free moving. It’s just about time for the Fall buyers to start looking for homes to host their Big Canoe Thanksgiving dinners. Every season has so much to offer here in the North Georgia mountains.
