Big Canoe Community is All About Choices

Over the past weekend I was speaking with a broker here in the Big Canoe community about a real estate show he had recently attended down in Florida. The purpose of the show was to match potential buyers with real estate groups selling mountain property, and hopefully to make a few sales. This broker explained that several of the folks he talked with had some questions about gated communities. It seemed some of these people felt that living in a gated community was maybe a little too “white-bread.” So, let me explain how the community of Big Canoe breaks the mold of “Gated Communities.”

Our entire blog site is devoted to life in Big Canoe and real estate in the North Georgia mountains, so obviously I am a little biased about where I live now. Yes, Big Canoe is a gated community, but it could also be accurately described as a small mountain town covering roughly 8000 acres. Having a 24 hour Public Safety Department monitoring traffic in and out of the gates is a huge asset for the Big Canoe Community. Crime in Big Canoe is virtually non-existent . According to stats compiled by Deputy Director of Public Safety Andy Beck, there are only a handful of petty crimes every year in the community. Almost all were reported by contractors missing materials from job sites.

The community of Big Canoe is anything but “white-bread.” It is a dynamic and diverse community composed of many young families with children, retirees, and everything in between! Clients often ask us about the different clubs and activities available in Big Canoe, and I’ll list a few here:

  • Big Canoe Animal Rescue (the group even has their own shelter for rescued animals)
  • Wildflower Bunch Garden Club
  • Pine Needle Quilters
  • Mountain Birds
  • Mothers Morning Out (a fantastic group based in the Chapel – see our old blog post on Big Canoe Mom’s Morning Out
  • No Name Book Club
  • Mah Jongg Club
  • Big Canoe Artists
  • Big Canoe Billiards Club
  • Big Canoe Fly Fishers
  • Bridge Club
  • Business Women of Big Canoe

The different types of geographic locations inside of Big Canoe also varies quite a bit. Homes and lots are available with a variety of views: woodland views, mountain views, lake and creek views, etc. Some of the mountain peaks also have elevations above 3000 feet meaning cooler summers and a few lovely snowfalls every year. The large size of the community also means that you can choose to live minutes from the nearest grocery store or you can choose to live off the beaten path where a drive to the gates can be over a 15 minute trip!

My point is that the Big Canoe Community is a community of choices. You are not limited to a single style of home or a type of view. There are homes available for under $200,000, and there are homes available for over 2 million. There are young families and retirees and amenities available for all. While the community of Big Canoe is a “gated community”, in my opinion it is one of a kind and definitely worth a look if you are interested in North Georgia mountain real estate.

Hello this is somewhat of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding skills so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
