Grocery Shopping in Big Canoe – Publix and IGA
Over the past few days, we have blogged about the different grocery stores serving the Big Canoe Community. As mentioned in the past two articles, as a real estate company serving Big Canoe, its a topic we get asked about quite a bit. The last two grocery stores I want to mention are the Publix located in Free Home, Georgia and the IGA which is located just outside the gates of Big Canoe in the Foothills Shopping Center.
The IGA (which stands for Independent Grocer Alliance) is a much smaller store compared to Kroger, Ingles, and Publix. Due to its current size, it just isn’t possible to cram the store with all the varieties and assortment of food items that the mega stores do. Still, the quality of the foods is high in my opinion. The meat section is very good. There is no discount card to be signed up for, and the prices seem a bit higher than the mega stores. Of course, IGA is also 5 minutes from the gates of Big Canoe in contrast to the 20-25 minute drive of the other stores, so your savings on gas may offset this price difference. The help in the IGA is also very friendly. IGA is also in the process of expanding to include a pharmacy and bakery.

The last grocery store I want to mention is the Publix grocery store located in Free Home, Georgia. The Publix store is located about 20-25 minutes from the gates of Big Canoe. It’s an easy drive, and you get to drive through some of the gorgeous horse country of North Georgia which is always nice. This Publix includes a bakery (with great subs), a deli, pharmacy, great produce, and a nice meat selection. The seafood, like all the rest of the local grocery stores, is pretty mediocre. The overall variety and quality of foods in excellent. There is no discount card, but the prices seem to be easily comparable if not better in many cases. The price and selection of wines is excellent. Check out is usually a fast and pleasant experience. Of all the local grocery stores serving Big Canoe, Publix is probably my favorite.

1 I think so. I never thought I would agree with you, but I’m starting to view things from a different view. I have to research more and more on this as it seems very interesting. One thing I don’t understand though is how everything is related together.
