Big Canoe Goes to the Dogs!

Spending Time With Mans Best Friend

Those of you who have been keeping up with our blog know that we are big dog lovers. Our newest addition, Pepper who inadvertantly came from Big Canoe has become my new fitness trainer. She’s got me running up hills and over any log that might have something hiding in it. She’s like Richard Simmons on speed! It must be the terrier ( I think that’s Latin for TERROR) in her that keeps the kids busy and me running. The good thing is that she sleeps as hard as she plays! I’m writing this blog tonight for most of the people I’ve been working with lately who just seem more complete with a dog or two….or three (stop me at any time!).  It sure can be hard to say no when you see those little peepers loking up at you with a big flapping tongue and a wiggly tail that just says “I will love you forever if you play with me”!

Dogs are a wonderful addition to the Big Canoe home for many reasons. One big reason is that they get you walking in every season and all types of weather. Big Canoe dogs tend to be great travelers because most residents take their pups along with them on a trip into town. Dogs love decks because they feel like they reign the kingdom and tell all the peasant squirrels to eat cake! Bears don’t like dogs and will usually keep their distance if you have one that “fertilizes” your yard.  When you feel like enjoying your love of man’s best friend, a great meeting place is the huge corraled dog park located near McDaniel Meadow.  It has a cute water pump  and about a full fenced acre of ”get it out of your system” space.

What type of dog is “in fashion” in Big Canoe? You name it. The pure breeds range from teacups to wine barrels! However most of the pups up here are the politically correct “All Americans”, formerly known as mutts. A lot of them come from the Big Canoe Animal Rescue. Many of them are older and have a behavior issue here or there but Big Canoe residents seem to have big hearts and plenty of patience. Adoptions are monthly and volunteers are welcome!

If you haven’t had a dog in a while, isn’t it about time???
